Day Trips

Transportation for hikes will be carpooling, meeting at The Hub North (back) parking lot.  Wear good hiking shoes, layer clothing, hat, and gloves. Bring water, sunscreen, and walking sticks or poles. Sign up and prepay for all classes at the front desk. Below are the current day trips with The Hub.

Big Horn Mountain Adventure

Visit the Tie Flume Flash Dam site. Go fishing, picnic, relax, or go for a walk at Dead Swede picnic ground. Sign up and pre-pay at the front desk by August 30. Minimum people needed to go: 6. Maximum people: 20. September 6th 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Suggested Contribution $25 for registered folks $30 for unregistered individuals. We will meet in the Lobby of The Hub.

Born in a Barn Day Trip

Born in a Barn is a haven for creators and appreciators of the unique and vintage. From all things chippy, rusty, vintage and handmade, you are sure to find that one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, handmade jewelry, or one of hundreds of other amazing treasures for your home or garden as you explore over 75 hand-picked vendors! Food vendors included. Sign up and pre-pay at the front desk by September 4th. Minimum people needed to go: 4. Maximum people: 7. Difficulty Level: easy to moderate. September 7th 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Suggested contribution for registered folks $10, Unregistered folks $13.

Koltiska Pumpkin Patch

Take the “Fun” bus out to the country and pick your own pumpkins! Your first pumpkin is $7, additional pumpkins are reduced price. Refreshments are served. Sign-up and pre-pay at the front desk by September 27. Minimum people needed to go: 3. Maximum people: 7 for bus transportation. You may drive yourself and the follow the bus at no charge. Difficulty level: Moderate. October 3rd 1:00 p.-3:00pm. Suggested contribution for registered folks $5, unregistered individuals $7. We will meet in the Lobby of The Hub.

Thermopolis Overnight

Back by popular demand with the request to have more time in the hot springs! We will tour the Wyoming Whisky Distillery on our way to Thermopolis, and the Washakie County Museum on our return trip. In Thermopolis, we will tour the Hot Springs County Museum and play in the hot springs. Museum entrance fees, hotel, and breakfast included. Sign-up and pre-pay at the front desk by September 18. Minimum people needed to go: 6. Maximum people: 20. Difficulty level: Moderately easy. September 24-25. 8:00a.m. departure from The Hub lobby. $175 Fee.

Red Grade Trail System Hike

Brad Bauer ED for Sheridan Community Land Trust will be our guide on this 1.4 mile hike and Steve Stresky will add geology tidbits along the way. We will hike both loops of the trail and have our lunch at the Red Grade Springs. Bring your own lunch. Sign-up at WWA – 675-2751 or The Hub by September 24. Difficulty Level – Moderate. September 24 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. No charge. We will meet in The Hub’s Lobby.

William Mentock Trail

We will drive to Mosier Park picnic area then hike down to the old Buffalo Power Plant for lunch on this 4.12 mile hike. After lunch we will hike on down to Turkey Lane parking area for pick up. Bring your own lunch. Sign-up at WWA – 672-2751 or at The Hub, by September 6th. Difficulty level; moderately easy. September 11 9:30 am – 3:00 pm. Car pool no charge.

Rosebud State Park Educational Hike

Rosebud Battlefield State Park in Big Horn County Montana preserves a large portion of the battlefield of the Battle of Rosebud fought on June 17, 1876. Park Ranger Spencer Morris will be our guide on this 2 mile hike. Following the hike we will drive to Tongue River Reservoir Marina for lunch. Bring your own lunch. Sign-up at WWA  – 672-2751 or The Hub by October 1. Difficulty Level: Moderately easy. October 4th 9:30a-2:30p. $6 fee, we will meet in The Hub’s Lobby.

Tongue River Canyon

The Tongue River Canyon hike has become an annual Autumn hike. The goal will be to reach Sheep Creek with lunch along the trail. Steve Stresky and Heidi Davidson will be our guides on this 4 mile hike. Steve will share geology tidbits throughout the hike. Bring your own lunch. Sign-up at WWA – 672-2751 or at The Hub by October 11. Difficulty level: strenuous. October 16th 9:30a-4:300p. No charge, we will meet in the Lobby of The Hub.

Black Diamond Historic Mine Trail

Nancy Herdt, who is very knowledgeable in the history of the underground coal mining in Sheridan County, will give us a live narration on this trip. The Black Diamond Historic Mine Trail, a joint project of the Sheridan Community Land Trust and the Wyoming Historic Preservation Work Group, was dedication on September 29, 2012. Visually appealing, highly informative interpretive signs on this trail mark locations of each of the major coal-camps. Lunch is included. Sign up and pre-pay at the front desk by October 22. Minimum people needed to go: 5. Maximum people: 14. Difficulty level; easy. October 25 9:30a-1:30p Suggested contribution for registered folks $25, unregistered folks $30. We will meet in The Hub’s Lobby.
